We only sponsor children who are already living within a family unit (be it with blood relatives or guardians), because we believe that by supporting a child within a family we can do more.

For example, by paying for the education of one child within the family, the parents can then afford to send a second child to school. Many families in Sierra Leone can only send the eldest son to school, piling huge pressure on the child and sending his younger siblings to sell water, groundnut and coal on the streets to raise money for the family. We are trying, on a small scale, to change this process, to ensure that more children, particularly girls (who are under represented in Sierra Leonean schools), are afforded at least a basic education.
